Atlanta History Center Part I: The non-US Civil War stuff

We visited the Atlanta Hisotry Center, which houses the Battle of Atlanta Cylcorama. Of course I took many pictures. Part I are the non-US civil war exhibits.

The end of another year comes around and it is time to take stoke of the year and what comes next.

2024 saw a good amount of gaming at Elko, Nevada, and at Atlanta, GA, despite the moves, and other life issues. Between January 2024 and August 2024 I got 22 game sessions in. Most of the gaming at Elko was Games Workshop products. A lot of Combat Patrol, some Underworlds, some Legio Imperialis. I did get some other games in, two sessions of Bloody Big Battles in my Le Journal De Petite Battailes format (both Gribomvo 1897), Darren’s excellent Mario Cart game, and Xenos Rampant.

In Atlanta, for many reasons, I had to focus my gaming efforts to twice a month, more than enough. Essentially once a month I play Warhammer 40k, and once a month I play in an ongoing BattleTech Campaign. Between August 2024 and December 2024 I have played eight games. 40k moved to incursion level games rather than combat patrol, and I am determined to use for 2025 the multiplayer rules so I can see more armies and meet more people. In BattleTech I am just running one pilot and one mech in multiplayer narrated scenario sessions. A good way to meet people and learn the system (Classical BattleTech). And I was able to run the Gribomvo 1897 Scenario here.

Eight and Final Game of the Year in Atlanta: LJdPB Gribomvo 1897 using Bloody Big Battles (Atlanta Eastside Light Irregulars)

The 2nd Meeting fo the Atlanta Eastside Light Irregualrs was a blast. Me, Robert, and Khayman came together at Challenge Games and Comics and I hosted with my LJdPB Gribomvo 1897 scenario using Bloody Big Battles. I took command of the Ottoman defenders, and Robert and Khayman too command of a Greek brigade each. Khayman drove twards Hnaopoulo and Gribomvo, while Robert to to the bridge. All in all the game was fun with the Greeks attaining victory at the start of Turn 6. Both players were new to BBB but quickly grasped the rule (helped by the detailed QRS made by one BBB groups.io member).

The dedicated mat and terrain got good comments, and the rules were also praised for their ability to give a good game, and provide players with options. All in all a good end to the year.

Set up and Early Stages of the Game

Projects finished in 2024

I was able to finish two projects before the passage of 2024. These are my 28mm 15th century Western European Army in heradly from Mark Smylie's fantasy Known World setting (Artesia, the Barrow, and Blackheart are set there) and two lances of Battletech Inner Sphere mechs from the A Game of Armored Combat box. I will write a repospective and 2025 plans post closer to New Year.

Seventh Game at Atlanta: Multiplayer 40k at Challenge Comics and Games

This Saturday I played a multiplayer 40k game at Challenge Comics and Games. We used the new rules. We each had 1000 points, and we had my Death Guard, Tyranids, Votaan, and Necrons. All in all a fun game, though we were not able to finish. The new rules cannot comepltely avoid the devolution of four player games into 2 vs 2 action, but manage it in a more formal way. I expect form now on most of my 40k to take this form. It has the pro of meeting more people, and seeing more armies in action.

Fifth and Sixth Game at Atlanta

On November 16th and 17th I got to play back to back. 40k in the first day, and the final scenario for the year in my BT campign. All in all good fun, though I will confess, playing BT after 40k, makes 40k look far too simple and thin gruel. I am not saying you cannot have fun. I am playing! But BT does provide a richer game experience.

Some done stuff

Over the two weeks I have painted some stuff for all of my current projects (28mm 15th century, Battletech, and 40k). As you will notice it is all sloppy, but I care not. The older I get the more I care just about a hint of personalization, and tabletop ready
